Plus a second chance at the EarthBound Beginnings CD or record.
For a while now, I’ve wanted to make MP3 rips of the MOTHER 1+2 music – mostly just because it’d be nice to have around sometimes, usually to show people the difference between the original games’ music and the GBA ports’. Some GSF archives exist, which you can get here: GSF files are. /r/EarthBound is a subreddit dedicated to Shigesato Itoi's cult classic JRPG series, EarthBound / MOTHER!
By Andrew GoldfarbShip to Shore PhonoCo has announced that it will release the soundtrack to EarthBound on vinyl. This is the first time that the soundtrack has ever been available outside of Japan, where it was released under the game’s original title, Mother 2.
The set will be packaged on two records as a gatefold double LP and is available in four colors: classic black, Giygas-inspired red/black swirl, Ness-inspired blue/yellow split, and Hot Spring Pink. The set will be available for pre-order on Ship to Shore’s store beginning tomorrow, August 26th, at 1:00PM Eastern Time.
In addition to the Mother 2 set, Ship to Shore will also be selling the remaining copies of the soundtrack to Mother 1 (recently released as EarthBound Beginnings in the West) on vinyl. That set was previously funded on Kickstarter but can now be purchased on Ship to Shore’s store. Copies of the Mother 1 soundtrack will also be available on CD. Updates on availability for both will be posted on Ship to Shore’s Twitter in the weeks to come.
Mother 2 was originally released on Super Famicom in Japan in 1994 before coming to the West on Super Nintendo as EarthBound in 1995. It came to Game Boy Advance in 2003 as part of the Mother 1+2 collection (only in Japan), and most recently arrived on Wii U Virtual Console in 2013. The first entry in the series, Mother, came to Famicom in Japan in 1989 but wasn’t released in the West until it was re-titled EarthBound Beginnings and released on Wii U Virtual Console earlier this year. The third entry in the series, Mother 3, was released in Japan on Game Boy Advance in 2006 and has yet to see a Western release, though its protagonist Lucas was added as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
