** I just noticed when writing this description that the saddle is cracked, and will need to be replaced. The best part about collecting Martin guitars is that the company has made it so easyvintage Martin guitars from 1898 to the present are easy to date because each instrument has an individual serial number. The string height is a little high, but no effort has been put in lowering the saddle. There is no neck separation at the body, the truss rod works fine, the tuners have been upgraded but the new holes aren't ugly. It has the expected dings, and wear for its age, but is a nice survivor. All I know is they were imported by Pennsylvania Music Exchange(Penco) from distributor Hoshino who sourced them from Fujigen,Kasuga and Terrada factories.
But even with that, the thing sounds amazing. Ive picked up a couple of Penco branded guitars a few months back-striking similarity to some Electra models. Which is a really good thing because it's all warped and separated and the bolt is the only thing holding it on. And the bridge is bolted on, like a Gibson. It has a Gibsonesque bridge with the screw saddle setting. Tough to tell, but I think it's laminated. The one I purchased has a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. I agree with it being thin, and it had laminated rosewood back and sides. I played one that was the studio knock around guitar a few years back while directing a voice session and it was amazing.
